Spin doctors
Letter to the Editor
Cincinnati Post, April 26, 2000

How many overpriced PR consultants does it take to fool the taxpayers? Apparently more than eight, since Dan Pinger Public Relations failed to change public opinion regarding cost overruns at Paul Brown Stadium.

Like many citizens, I was outraged when the county hired a PR firm to put a positive spin on the stadium fiasco. But to learn that Pinger ate up the allotted $50,000 in just a matter of days is mind-boggling. One has to wonder what services this agency provided at taxpayer expense.

All the spin doctors in the world can’t change the fact that the county commissioners lied about construction costs and gave the Bengals a contract more lopsided than a sinking ship. The county should release all documents pertaining to the contract with Dan Pinger Public Relations so we can see precisely what we, the taxpayers, received for our money.

And let’s hope the commissioners don’t hire another PR agency to handle damage control over this latest boondoggle, then another agency to handle damage control over the next boondoggle, then again and again and again.

Dr. Bob Drake
Candidate,
Hamilton County treasurer
